The Green Bay Packers are currently tied for first place in the NFC North division with a record of 3-1. On Sunday, they defeated the Detroit Lions 28-26 in a very sloppy game that was dominated by the Lions. The win came at a cost, though, as they lost their starting strong safety Morgan Burnett for the season to a torn ACL. Now, the news of the week is that that Pro Bowl linebacker Nick Barnett is also out for the season, leaving a devastating blow to the Packers's season. With four key starters already out for the season, along with two players forced to miss the first six games and possibly more on the Physically Unable to Perform list, some are beginning to question whether this once-dominant team still has a shot at the Super Bowl with their loss of depth. The Packers defense had proven doubters wrong all season, and they will need to do it over again with these losses if they are going to have a chance to succeed.

The Green Bay Packers
History:

The Green Bay Packers were founded in the year 1919, one year after the founding of the NFL, by Curly Lambeau. They play at Lambeau Field, known as the Frozen Tundra for its extreme cold weather games in the winter, which is one of the league's most historic fields. It opened under the name City Field in 1925, and was changed to the name Lambeau Field after its founder in the year 1965. The Packers are one of the NFL's most historic teams, and they have a rich history of great teams, players, and fans. They have the most championships of any team in the history of the league with 12, along with the second most wins and Hall of Famers. They won the first two Super Bowls under the famed head coach Vince Lombardi, and for this the Super Bowl trophy was named after him. They also won the 31st Super Bowl under Coach Mike Holmgren, led by Brett Favre along with Desmond Howard's incredible performance that led him to become the first kick returner to win Super Bowl MVP after his 99 yard touchdown return that saved the game. Famous Packers include Brett Favre, Bart Starr, Don Hutson, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitchske, Reggie White, Curly Lambeau, Jim Taylor, and James Lofton. Their current players of note include future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, Defensive Player of the Year Charles Woodson, Perennial Pro Bowler Donald Driver, and superstars Greg Jennings and Clay Matthews.
